Sustainability

The small steps we take in the garden to reduce waste and reuse and recycle inorganic materials helps us all in the long run.

The garden composts its green waste, converting it into fertilizer for the raised beds and reducing the load at local landfills. We also raise worms. Yes, worms. They like food scraps and their byproducts make an amazing organic fertilizer.

Electricity in the garden is provided by solar panels on the roof of the washing station and other buildings.

Rather than setting up an irrigation system, gardeners hand-water their plots, allowing better control of how much water is needed. We have recently installed a wireless smart irrigation controller for the orchard, which also helps us use less water.
